If you are going on a hike and overnight camping trip, it is important to pick the right backpacking tent for the size group you are going with. In many cases, people carry their own individual tent, but friends and family groups may find it easier to have a larger option. This is especially true if you are going camping with children.
One Person Backpacking Tent – This can be as involved as a high-tech dome tent and as simple as a tarp program over a rope strung between two trees. If everyone on a trip has their own individual backpacking tent, people may feel more secure and comfortable, but they may not all have enough room to set up nearby.
Small Group Backpacking Tent – If you are going out into the wilderness with two, three, or four people, a small group backpacking tent may be a better choice. You can take turns carrying it, and all set it up together once you reach the campsite.
Family Size Tent – If you are going camping with your family, especially if small children are long, having one large family tent is an ideal sleeping situation away from home. The only problem with this size tent is carrying it. These can be extremely heavy and cumbersome. You’re not going to roll up a five person tent and strap it to your backpack easily. Other options may need to be considered for a family backpacking tent decision.
