Most people have seen the cliche fishing hats with a narrow brim and different lures dangling off it worn by someone’s friendly uncle in a movie or television show. While it is possible to make fishing hats that look like this, most people opt for something a bit more ordinary and beneficial.
When it comes to fishing hats, there are three major benefits that they provide:
1 – Fishing hats usually have a brim all the way around in order to protect the wearer from the hot sun beating down. Not only does the fishing hats themselves block sunburn, but the brims can protect the entire face, neck and even partial shoulders for the fisherman. Stopping sunburn is not the only benefit of these fishing hats though. Keeping the sun out of the fishing the person’s eyes and help them keep track of their line and even see into the water to check conditions.
2 – Fishing hats can hold extra lures or hooks if the person doing the fishing is a little bit whimsical and silly. Because most hats are cloth, it is easy to stick things to them or hang things off of them if necessary keep track of for a short time. Of course, it is not a good idea to have sharp hooks hanging around your face all the time.
3 – Some fishing hats have a pocket at the back or have sufficient space at the back of the head to pin your fishing license. This is a convenient way to display it so if the authorities come by checking them they can quickly see that you have the proper license without interrupting your fishing.
